Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA finally delivered on its potential in Brazil, taking a well-earned win in the Hypercar class at the 6 Hours of São Paulo. After strong qualifying, the team turned pace into performance, with both Cadillac V-Series.R cars leading much of the race.
The #12 car, driven by Will Stevens, Alex Lynn and Norman Nato, overcame a drive-through penalty to claim victory – the first for Cadillac in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Lynn had started the race from pole, and the trio fought back strongly after the early setback. Their win also marked the first time an American manufacturer has won a WEC race.
“This has been three years in the making,” said Lynn. “To finally get this win with Cadillac and JOTA is special – and I believe there’s more to come.”
Cadillac’s success was complete as the #2 sister car, shared by Earl Bamber, Sébastien Bourdais and Jenson Button, came home second. Bourdais had to fend off late pressure from Julien Andlauer in the #5 Porsche, who finished third alongside Michael Christensen.
Defending champions Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor took fourth in the #6 Porsche, while BMW’s #20 car gained ground late on by saving fresh tyres for the final stint, finishing fifth. Peugeot showed improved pace with both cars in the top ten – the #94 ahead of the #93 in sixth and seventh – marking the team’s best combined result this season.
It was a disappointing day for the title leaders Ferrari. Their best finisher was the privateer #83 Le Mans-winning car in eighth, while the two works entries were only 11th and 12th. Toyota, meanwhile, failed to score any points for the first time in the Hypercar era.
Lexus wins LMGT3
In LMGT3, it was a breakthrough win for Lexus. The Akkodis ASP Team’s #87 RC F LMGT3, driven by José María López, Clemens Schmid and Petru Umbrărescu, dominated the class to take a convincing victory – Lexus’s first in the category.
